Om Shanti Om just did that and soon Halla Bol, Superstar and Khoya Khoya Chand will follow suit. What's the common connection between all these films, you ask? Well they all are films based on films. That means the basic setting of the film is within our own film industry. Indiatimes Movies looks at more of such films in the present and in the past that have had a Bollywood connection…

Om Shanti Om:

You can't get more filmi than Om Shanti Om. A film that represents showbiz in its story, style and substance! The movie is the story of Om Makhija and his struggle to get a foothold in the Hindi film industry and how after his death he is reincarnated in the form of Om Kapoor who happens to be a superstar in Bollytown. The film is completely based on the Hindi film industry wherein Deepika Padukone too plays an actress. Om Shanti Om is so filmi that Farah Khan also roped in yesteryear superstars for a special song inn the movie.

Halla Bol:

One of the most eagerly awaited films directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Ajay Devgan, Vidya Balan and veteran actor Pankaj Kapur, Halla Bol speaks of the journey of an ordinary man who becomes a superstar actor.

Ajay is a guy who is struggling with theatre plays and then gets a break in Bollywood. His success then makes him arrogant and susceptible to corruption and greed but then something happens that forces him to reform himself.

And Halla Bol is about raising that inner voice to bring about a positive change within the system.

Khoya Khoya Chand:

Shiney Ahuja plays a young writer who attains success in Bollywood in Sudhir Mishra's Khoya Khoya Chand. And Soha Ali Khan is a girl who dreams of being a mainstream heroine.

The movie talks of the Hindi film industry being a magical world and how it sucks up individuals in its web of greed and jealousy. The film travels in the time period of the 1950's and 60's and speaks of being a tribute to the creative people and the film industry's Golden years back then. Produced by Prakash Jha and directed by Sudhir Mishra, Khoya Khoya Chand promises to be a journey into the inner world of tinsel town.

The film has actor Kunal Khemu in a never before seen role of an actor who is also the superstar of the film industry.
