 When India 'missed' the Universe
Despite getting a broad exposure to the world of fashion, these Miss India beauties fail to emerge as a winner on the global front. So, as Ekta Chaudhary adds her name to the list of losers, we re-introduce to you the ladies who couldn’t make it to the Miss Universe crown. Ekta Chaudhary, 2009: Delhi girl Ekta Chaudhary failed to make it to the top 15 finalists of the Miss Universe 2009 contest, dashing hopes of getting the crown back to India once again. Even after making waves with her red evening gown and flaunting her curves at the swimsuit round at the Miss Universe pageant, Ekta could not manage to get the coveted crown as she had a tomboyish look that contributed to her loss. Amrita Thapar, 2005: Fashion designer Amrita Thapar was crowned Miss India Universe 2005 at a glittering function in Mumbai. Then she went on to represent India at the Miss Universe pageant 2005, where she lost it to the other beauties from around the world. Some blamed it on her figure that couldn’t help her at the pageant and her thunderous thighs came to the notice of the judges in a bikini. (AFP/Saeed Khan)
