There was a time when Job-holders were paid their salaries in Cash .. and Banks/Post-offices introduced a "Saving account" where you can deposit a part of your salary for "Saving" purpose, so it can be used during hard times ..

Now the scenario is changed, to get salary you should have a "Saving account" (actually "Salary account") .. Well, all your money is already deposited in bank and you can withdraw the amount you need .. Well, it quite similar to opening your locker (or tijori) and getting money in old times .. Whats the difference ??

Differences are a lot .. In todays world, you don't have to run to your home if you are runnning out of money , you can just go to nearby ATM and withdraw .. or just Swipe your card in the stores (if they have facility) .. Also you get interest by the bank on your deposited amount ..

Well, saving money is a good habit .. and everybody should save some money for their unknown unsecure future .. but till what extend this moeny should be saved ?? Should money be saved by eating food one time a day ?? Should money be saved by having sleepless nights just worrying about your future ?? Should money be saved by killing your desires that you can fulfill at that time ??

There is a very major difference between "Just Saving money" and "Saving money for hard times" ..

If a person "Dabar Seth" is earning 50,000 INR in a month ...
Total Monthly expenditure : 5,000 INR
Total Saving : 45,000 INR

If a person "Deenanath ji" is earning 5,000 INR in a month ..
Total Monthly expenditure : 3,500 INR
Total Saving : 1,500 INR

Now who is saving ?? both .... right ..
Now how they are saving ?? ... and you will find that major difference between "Just saving money" and "Saving moeny for hard times" ...

The reasons are numerous.
Save money is investing for your future expectations.
Provides Financial Security
Saving money offers financial protection. Who wouldn't want that? No one knows what the future may bring.
The point is, conserving money opens the door to many opportunities.

Saving money can close the door for current opportunity too .. There are several opportunities that comes at your doorstep sooner .. If somebody think "Well, we will get this opportunity again so its better to save money to enjoy more of the future one" ..

It reminded me of some story posted in "Story time" .. i think its subject was "1 BHK Flat".. The main character of that story sacrificed many things in his life for a better future .. but then in the end he realizes that he cudn't even buy a 1 BHK Flat , he is older enough to enjoy those opportunities and his kids were embarassed because of him ..

Well, saving money is a good thing .. everyone wants to be financially secured .. but it should never be at the cost of happiness, health, family, expectations of your beloved .. You should take every step cautiously when it comes the financial matter ..

It reminded me of my different friends..

RK said .. "Hey, we are earning a lot of money .. working for a multi-national company.. We should maintain a status now .. I want to buy every happiness .. " .. Spending money on phone, flat, vehicle, parties un-necessarily was his habit .. He rarely saved anything from his salary .. and Now he says "The company is giving me less money , you know i have to pay this bill, pay the rent etc. etc ." ..

Another friends..

Another friend of mine RNK maintain a just normal status .. carrying a old black and white mobile with prepaid connection , going to internet cafe to surf net, not a party guy , believed in simple and sober life style , preferring to go office by walk , used auto rikshaw .. saving electricity ,water, gas was his habit .. and when asked him why he is not like RK , he answered "Yaar woh bada aadmi hai , apni aukaat nahi hai .. I need to save money for my younger brothers education , ghar bhi renovate karwana hai , shaadi bhi karni hai , etc . etc. etc. "

Well, as you would have noticed the difference .. both were earning the same salary , but RK saved nothing and RNK saved a lot ..

Considering the recession , if two of such guys loose their jobs, then RNK type will be able live with same lifestyle for another 2 years without any job .. but RK type will always suffer ..

But the RNK has a problem .. Mostly he remembers the old time and regrets .. "I wish I had this much money when I was in College .. I would have gone there during that trip .. " .. Yeah buddy, you had it .. but you tried to save it .. why regret ?

No doubt if RNK says in his old days "Wish I could have gone to Pizza Hut with you guys during those weekends .., I feel shy at this age, that place is for young generation only .. "

Overall.. to earn something, we need to loose something .. the preference depends from person to person

Well, we don't live to earn money .. we earn money to live ..

We save money to be prepared for future contingencies........
Simple and deep.....

This is reason enough for me.. No one needs any more than enough (a little fun added) then save the rest for when is needed..
